About Tradescene

A Kenyan engineering firm that builds like it has to live with what it ships.

Tradescene Tech Limited is a private engineering company founded and run by Tony Ngugi (CEO & CTO) and Brenda Kang'acha (COO). We're headquartered in Muranga, with roots in Nakuru City — the place that shaped how we think about commerce, infrastructure, and the businesses we build for.

"Defensive coding with a paranoid-first design. Assume the system will be attacked, assume it will fail, then build the version that survives both."

Brenda Kang'acha

Operations, clients, and delivery. If a project ships on time and stays on budget, it's because this side of the company kept it honest.

Origin

Why we started.

Tradescene exists because too much software in this market is built to demo, not to survive. We watched businesses in Nakuru, Muranga, and across Kenya buy systems that looked fine on a sales call and fell apart the moment a real transaction hit them — or the moment an attacker looked at them twice.

We didn't want to be that kind of company. So we built Tradescene around a simple, uncomfortable premise: every system we ship should still be something we'd be willing to run ourselves, years later, under load, with someone actively trying to break it.

Tony leads engineering with defensive coding and a paranoid-first design posture — the assumption that a system will eventually be attacked, will eventually fail, and needs to keep working anyway. Brenda runs operations, delivery, and the client relationship so that "on time and on budget" aren't marketing words — they're the way we work.

We're a private limited company. We're small on purpose. And we take on fewer projects than we could, because we'd rather deliver a system we can stand behind than a portfolio we can't maintain.

Principles

Four rules we don't bend.

These are the ones we enforce internally, even when they cost us the deal. If a project needs us to break one of them, we'd rather not take the project.

01

Paranoid-first design

Every system is designed on the assumption that it will be attacked, will be misused, and will fail. Security and resilience are the starting point, not a feature bolted on at the end. This is Tony's line and it's non-negotiable.

02

Defensive coding

We code for the failure cases before the happy path. Input validation, error boundaries, transaction safety, and idempotency are table stakes — not details someone remembers at the end of the sprint.

03

Fixed scope or no scope

We quote the price we'll charge and we hold to it. If a project can't be scoped honestly up front, we'll say so before we take your money — not invent a range and bill you to the top of it.

04

We stay on it

We don't ship and disappear. The team that built your system is the team you call when something goes wrong — because they're the only people who should be answering that call.

How we work

Small teams. Senior work. No hand-offs.

The structure of the company is deliberate. It's why the work looks the way it does across every service page.

Team shape

Senior-only, small by design

We don't staff projects with juniors and a senior reviewing on Fridays. Whoever's on your project is the person who'd make the architectural calls on their own. That's why we take on fewer clients than we technically could.

Communication

Plain English, direct line

No account managers, no weekly status decks, no "let me check with the team." You talk to the engineer building your system, in language you actually understand, whenever you need to.

Delivery

Fixed scope, staged rollout

Scope is locked before build starts. Delivery is staged — you see the system coming together, not a six-month surprise. Launch is a plan with rollback, not a Friday cutover.

Post-launch

We stay on it — literally

Every system we ship comes with ongoing maintenance: monitoring, patching, and a direct escalation path. If we didn't want to maintain it, we wouldn't have built it.

Leadership

The people behind the work.

Tony Ngugi

Founder · CEO · CTO

Leads engineering and product. Believes in defensive coding, paranoid-first design, and systems that behave predictably under attack. Writes the code and answers the phone when something breaks — both roles, same person, on purpose.

Brenda Kang'acha

Co-founder · COO

Runs operations, delivery, and client relationships. Keeps projects on schedule, keeps scope honest, and keeps the client side of Tradescene as dependable as the engineering side. The reason "on time and on budget" isn't a slogan here.

Not vanity metrics. Just the things we can actually point to.

Talk to us

You'll talk to the person who'd build it.

Not a salesperson, not an account manager. If you want to know whether we can help with something specific, the fastest way is to ask the engineer who'd work on it. That's Tony.
